Deborah’s “Creativitea Sessions”

This week’s blog was written by our fantastic volunteer Deborah who has volunteered with us for the past year. Deborah brings so much creativity to The No.1 Befriending Agency through her arts and crafts session, and this is what she had to say.

I have enjoyed running my “Creativitea Sessions” as I believe it improves my befriending skills. Through my sessions, I have found that I can adapt my activities to cater to the preferences and hobbies of the service users. I have found that I can meet the needs of the people attending the session and work together in a creative environment. The service users have impressed me during my sessions as they demonstrated determination in the creative art projects we are working on together. I enjoy finding new approaches and activities I can incorporate into my sessions. Initially, I began my arts and crafts sessions online. However, I have recently brought my skills from the online world to in-person events, which have been a joy.

I have always been made to feel welcome and feel like a valuable member of the team. My sessions have helped me develop my confidence and presentation skills when addressing a large audience. I have found a good connection with the service users through my sessions.

I am looking forward to the Heritage Project and the future projects to come as well as meeting new individuals along the way.
